May the Force be with you
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, well not the long ago. In fact, May the 4th is just around the corner and we think celebrating the amazing world of Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren and of course The Force is great fun and the perfect reason to dress up.
But where did this all begin? Well, the Star Wars franchise started way back in 1977 when George Lucas had the vision to create this amazing piece of science-fiction. Over the next 45 years we have been gifted numerous films, cartoons and television series including the most recent The Mandalorian. But is "May the fourth be with you" a celebration of Star Wars or a clever merchandising ploy?
Not actually created by Lucasfilm, this catchphrase has become the perfect way for fans around the world to celebrate the genre. And as recent as 2013 has been embraced by both Lucasfilm and Disney with several themed events at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. There have been many famous occurrences of people and celebrities across all walks of life using the catchphrase as well!
Did you know Margaret Thatcher, the late Prime Minster of the United Kingdom had the phrase “May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations”, placed in The London Evening Standard newspaper? Surely a classic example for Yoda’s quote “the ability to speak does not make you intelligent”!
And then again in a UK Parliament defence debate on, well obviously May the 4th! Or even some of our own Minor League baseball teams, including the Toledo Mud Hens and Durham Bulls have worn Star Wars costumes as part of there celebrations. Go the Bulls!
More recently on Star Wars Day 2015, the astronauts on the ISS watched Stars Wars films. Surely that is out of this world?

So, maybe the clever marketing machine is responsible for all this fandom and geekiness, but does it really matter? Do we really need an excuse to let our hair down, dress up in amazing costumes, and who does not want their daughters to look fabulous dressed in a Force Awakens Rey costume? And if you can get May the 4th 20% OFF HalloweenCostumes.com coupon, thats even better!
All I know is I simply cannot wait for the next adventure with Chewie, Yoda or even Salicious B Crumb and immerse my inner Jedi back into that far galaxy far and enjoy all the old and new films.
The Next Star Wars Movie?
Yoda once said "difficult to see. Always in motion is the future" so in regard to any new movies from Disney, I guess we will just have to sit back and wait for the next visit to somewhere far, far away. Let us hope it is not a long time to wait.
